Clogs are comfortable and even provide terrific support for those with flat feet. Clogs became quite trendy in the '70s, probably for their convenience; they are easy to slip on and off. Clogs, however, have been around for sometime, particularly in The Netherlands. "Klompen" (a pair of clogs in Dutch) have been a cultural mark in The Netherlands' for several centuries.7 This shoe was used primarily to do work, especially during the Industrial Revolution. Popular in northern France, England, and the low countries (i.e. Belguim, Luxemburg, and The Netherlands), the shoes were cheap, durable, and very strong since they were made from tough materials like alder, birch, sycamore, or breech. Shaped to fit the foot, clogs were often worn with thick socks or bare feet. With the latter, hay, straw, or bracken stuffed along the interior helped pad the rigidity of the wood.8. The upward turned toe in most traditional clogs make it easier to walk. Today in The Netherlands, klompen are made from plain wood with the beautifully carved, painted, or textured clogs saved for Sundays. A typical appearance of the clog in contemporary Netherlands is in the gardens as someone tends to the plants and flowers.

Shoes are very important should very be comfort and very stylish of course. In the 70’s they wore a lot of platform shoes. Some of the platform shoes also had a small fish tank in the heel. In the early 1970s platform shoes started with a quite slim sole which moved from ¼ inch up to about 4 inches at the peak of popularity. When they were that high, individuals frequently got friendly cobblers, or handy men to hollow out cheese holes from the sole base. By the mid seventies the most ordinary people were wearing two inch deep platforms without a second thought. But accidents did happen and many a woman and man twisted on a pair of platform shoes.

In the 1970's that's when a lot changed for the world. The 70’s are when new fashion trends came out and new ways of living the 1970's came out. In the 70’s that is when the styles of the clothes changed. In the70’s is when the styles disco and hippie looks came out. That was a time to be free with the way they dressed and lived. In the 70’s the world was a lot different back then and safer, than today. During all these new changes in the fashion world that is when women chose who they wanted to be. Everybody wanted to be hip and cool. Sometimes you would walk down the street and see people wearing the same things on, just like today. If you were not from the United States of America and saw what the people were wearing, you would think they were weird. The styling of the clothes was very much free spirited and relaxed. The clothes went with the theme of that time.
